Lost but not forgotten

Hi Everyone,br /br /Well, tonights post is a sad post for me. Two weeks ago to the day, while we were on vacation, my sister received a phone call that her childhood friend Melissa Lech that she has known since 6th grade died from a hit and run. Some of you in the Chicago area may have seen it on the news, but if you haven’t, a href=”http://cbs2chicago.com/video/?id=47626@wbbm.dayport.com”HERE/a is a clip from one of the past news casts.br /a href=”http://www.suburbanchicagonews.com/heraldnews/news/1099095,4_1_JO09_LECH_S1.article”br /HERE/a is also an article.br /br /Because there is a 13 year gap between my sister Alexis and I, sometimes I feel like she is my own kid. So I have watched her and her friends all grow up together. They both were attending the University of Illinois in Champaign, and this would have been their Junior year there. Alexis and Melissa were the best of friends all through grade school and most part of high school. So most of what I remember of Melissa is when they were definitely younger, and she was a crazy and loveable girl all at the same time. I remember I would get home from work and I would tease her to take it down a notch because she always had so much energy, no matter what time of day it was. She also weighed about 95 pounds, but you would never know it b/c she would out eat anyone at the table, including my brother! If I knew she was coming over, we would just double the food amount. She loved my mom’s homemade pasta sauce. My fondest memories of them all together was helping them get ready to try out for cheerleading and trying to teach them all back walk overs and body rolls in my mom’s living room. br /br /Here are some cheerleading shots of Melissa and my sister Alexis. Alexis is on the left, Melissa is on the right.br /br /a onblur=”try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}” href=”http://bellissimaphotography.com/uploaded_images/pic1-748440.jpg”img style=”cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;” src=”http://bellissimaphotography.com/uploaded_images/pic1-748081.jpg” border=”0″ alt=”” //abr /br /Here’s another onebr /br /a onblur=”try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}” href=”http://bellissimaphotography.com/uploaded_images/pic2-725289.jpg”img style=”cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;” src=”http://bellissimaphotography.com/uploaded_images/pic2-724815.jpg” border=”0″ alt=”” //abr /br /This picture was actually taken at my wedding. I had to have my girls there!br /This is the group of gals Alexis has hung out with since 6th grade:br /br /Alexis, Melissa, Megan, and Heatherbr /br /a onblur=”try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}” href=”http://bellissimaphotography.com/uploaded_images/pic3-797950.jpg”img style=”cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;” src=”http://bellissimaphotography.com/uploaded_images/pic3-797433.jpg” border=”0″ alt=”” //abr /br /This picture describes Melissa perfectly, she’s such a nut!br /br /a onblur=”try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}” href=”http://bellissimaphotography.com/uploaded_images/pic4-767501.jpg”img style=”cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;” src=”http://bellissimaphotography.com/uploaded_images/pic4-766992.jpg” border=”0″ alt=”” //abr /br /This picture is a more recent picture of Melissa and Alexis, taken when they firstbr /started U of I. br /br /a onblur=”try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}” href=”http://bellissimaphotography.com/uploaded_images/pic5-732008.jpg”img style=”cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;” src=”http://bellissimaphotography.com/uploaded_images/pic5-730777.jpg” border=”0″ alt=”” //abr / br /br /It has taken me a while to even blog about this b/c I can’t seem to wrap my head around what has happened to this young girl who had such a bright future ahead of her, and also to her family and friends who will miss her dearly. And I don’t know what’s worse, losing your child, or losing her and not knowing what happened. My heart goes out to her family, b/c I can’t imagine what they’re going through right now. br /br /So I am asking that everyone please keep Melissa’s family in their prayers. br /br /There is an ongoing investigation, but so far not much has turned up. Her mom and family are asking anyone with information to please come forward. The Joliet Police Department is offering a $5000 reward, and her mom has added $15,000 to anyone withbr /information leading to an arrest. Please if anyone knows anything, you’re asked to contact the a href=”http://www.jolietpolice.org/”Joliet Police Dept/a or a href=”http://www.crimestoppersofwillcounty.org/default.htm”Crime Stoppers/a. br /br /Sorry about the Debbie Downer post, I just felt this is a great opportunity to reach as many people as possible so that hopefully someone does come forward with information. And I think it has really helped me say goodbye. So thanks for listening. br /br /Priscilla

I knew Melissa. She was my childhood friend. When I went to my aunt’s wedding I would always dance with Melissa. She was always my favorite in the family. And when my aunt threw the flowers, Melissa caught them =[
